Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between night vision and thermal imaging?
Night vision amplifies available light (such as moonlight or starlight) to produce a visible image, while thermal imaging detects heat signatures emitted by objects and people. Night vision works best in low-light environments, whereas thermal optics are ideal for detecting heat through smoke, fog, or total darkness.
Can I legally own night vision or thermal devices in the U.S.?
Yes, U.S. citizens can legally purchase and own night vision and thermal devices. However, due to ITAR regulations, these devices cannot be exported or transferred to foreign persons without proper authorization.
What is ITAR and how does it affect my purchase?
ITAR is a set of U.S. regulations that controls the transfer and export of certain defense-related products and technologies. Some items sold by Procyon Industries may be subject to ITAR restrictions, depending on the product, end user, and destination. If a product is ITAR-controlled, additional review or authorization may be required before delivery. Customers with questions about eligibility are encouraged to contact us directly.
Do I need a license to buy a night vision device?
No license is required to purchase a night vision device for personal use in the United States. However, export or resale outside the U.S. is strictly prohibited under federal law.
What’s the difference between green and white phosphor night vision?
Green phosphor provides the traditional night vision image with excellent contrast, while white phosphor delivers a more natural, higher-contrast image that many users find easier on the eyes and more effective in varying lighting conditions.
Are your devices ready to ship?
All orders are subject to the 7-21 day lead time to allow for any logistical interruptions along the way.
Can I customize my night vision device?
Absolutely. We offer a Custom Night Vision Builder where you can select your preferred housing, intensifier tube, lens, and accessories. Each unit is professionally assembled and tested to meet our exacting standards.
What is covered under your warranty?
Our lifetime warranty covers all Procyon Industries housings, and image intensifier tubes are covered for 5 years (new) or 1 year (Omni contract). Accidental damage is covered, but intentional damage is not. Warranties apply to second-hand devices with proof of purchase.
Do thermal devices require calibration?
Most thermal optics include automatic or manual calibration (NUC) to ensure image clarity across temperature shifts. We recommend reading your specific device’s manual for optimal performance guidelines.
Do you accept returns or offer refunds?
Yes, we offer a full refund if your product arrives non-functional. Otherwise, returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee and must be initiated within 7 days of receipt. Items must be returned in original condition and packaging.
Do you offer customer support or phone consultations?
Yes — we’re happy to answer your questions by email or phone. Whether you need help choosing a device or have questions about your order, our team is here to assist.
