The tube retainer is a threaded metal ring that holds the image intensifier in the pod housing and keeps the light pipe, if present, seated on the eyepiece side of the tube.
It is installed after the tube and light pipe, if present, using a spanner so the ring is even and not cross-threaded. (Primarily used for PVS-14s but can be utilized in other housings)
