The RNVG-A, also known as the ARNVG (Articulating Ruggedized Night Vision Goggle), is engineered for operators who require maximum durability, articulation capability, and dependable performance in demanding environments. Machined from aircraft-grade billet aluminum, the RNVG-A housing is designed to eliminate structural weak points while providing exceptional impact resistance. During drop testing, the housing exceeded MIL-STD-810H requirements, surviving impacts onto bare concrete from heights beyond what optics and image intensifiers can withstand.
The control system utilizes guarded push-button switches for power and the integrated infrared illuminator. The IR illuminator button is protected by a raised fence with distinctive contours to prevent accidental activation. Visual indicators within the user’s field of view provide confirmation when the IR illuminator is active and alert the user to low battery conditions. Power is supplied by a single onboard CR123 battery, with the option to connect an auxiliary battery pack through a 4-pin LEMO-style connector for extended operation.
Optically, the RNVG-A incorporates mil-spec objectives and eyepieces, allowing precise adjustment and user comfort. Objective focus ranges from 9.8 inches to infinity, while eyepiece diopter adjustment spans from -6 to +2. The articulating design enables rapid interpupillary adjustment from 47mm to over 80mm, accommodating a wide range of users. Each optical pod can be rotated independently out of the user’s field of view, allowing single-eye or unaided vision operation as needed.
When helmet mounted and stowed, the optical pods fold rearward and lie flat against the helmet, reducing neck strain and minimizing the risk of impact with overhead obstacles. The pods automatically power off when articulated upward, preventing unwanted illumination and ensuring the image intensifiers are inactive in the stowed position. Pod articulation resistance is user adjustable using a coin, allowing the system to be tuned to individual preference.
The RNVG-A is available in Flat Black and Flat Dark Earth. All components are media blasted to achieve a non-reflective matte finish, anodized for durability, and Cerakoted on FDE models to provide a rugged, protective exterior suitable for harsh operational use.
